Niles, Ohio – Compassionate Business Award moves from PETA to local Cafaro company for installing warning signs in shopping centers warning people about the dangers of leaving animals or children in parked cars. The mall development and management company decided to design and display signage across dozens of its properties in 10 states (and on social media) after discussions with PETA.

“The temperature inside a parked car can reach deadly heights in minutes, and an unexpected delay can turn a ‘quick deal’ into a tragedy for an abandoned dog or child,” says PETA executive vice president Tracy Reiman. “Responding to PETA’s call for warning signs, Cafaro is helping to protect vulnerable family members from horrific heatstroke deaths.”

This summer heat-related deaths out of 28 dogs have already made it into the news – and many more dogs have suffered and died out of the public eye. Anyone who sees a dog or a child in a parked car should take action immediately: write down the color, make, model and license plate and hurry so that the nearest stores have information about the owner of the car – if the owner cannot be found, call the local humane authorities or the police. And if they not responding, do whatever you can to save a life. PETA offers a window breaker for emergency relief.

Cafaro will receive a framed certificate and a box of delicious vegan chocolates. He joins other leading real estate management companies, as well as Albertsons, CVS, and Walmart, in implementing alerts.

PETA, whose motto is in part that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way,” is opposed to arrogance, a worldview focused on human superiority. For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
