A 21-year-old navy fighter pilot was shot down by Japanese artillery over 60 years ago in WWII. 6-year-old James Leininger somehow figured out his name. Ever since he was a young toddler, James loved to play with planes. Eventually, he started having regular nightmares about plane crashes. His parents figured that he was having night terrors, but weren’t sure how his brain was manifesting these images. “I’d wake him up and he’d be screaming,” Andrea told ABCNEWS’ Chris Cuomo. She said when she asked her son what he was dreaming about, he would say, “Airplane crash on fire, little man…

Nikola Tesla was born in July of 1856 in the small Croatian village of Smiljan. He was a scientist within the same rank as Albert Einstein and Thomas Edison, but with much less credit to his name when he was alive. Tesla had many pioneering inventions that never left the prototype phase while he was alive, but these blueprints were proven worthwhile years after his death. In 1899, he was the first person to attempt to communicate with neighboring cilivizations using radio waves. He was at his lab in Colorado Springs working on recording electromagnetic disturbances. He was using a…
The mind still holds many mysteries despite the advancements of modern-day medicine. The early 1900s was just the beginning of therapy for mental illness, but sadly, there were a lot of bumps along the way on the path to the cure. A lobotomy is a procedure where a doctor uses an ice pick to sever the prefrontal cortex’s connections to the rest of the brain. The intent of the lobotomy was to ease symptoms of mental illnesses like schizophrenia, manic depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorders, and severe depression. At the time, people assumed that the brains of the mentally ill…
The Johnstown Flood claimed over 2,200 lives in 1889. It’s known as one of America’s greatest natural disasters. This sort of death and destruction left an imprint on the town that ended up creating more problems, or so the townspeople thought. Johnstown is located in Cambria County, Pennsylvania. In 1907, a 16-year-old girl named Katherine Winsky took her own life in a hallway of City Hall. Folks thought that this was an eerie occurrence since the original city hall, which stood in the same place, was completely destroyed in the flood and had many folks die inside. Katherine took her…
The Stimson House in Los Angeles, California is also known as the “Red Castle” for its foreboding architecture. The home has famously been the setting for many horror movies, which makes it insanely creepy! The home was built in 1891 for a Michigan lumber and banking millionaire Thomas Douglas Stimson. Upon completion, the Los Angeles Times called it the “costliest and most beautiful private residence in Los Angeles.” At one point, someone attempted to blow up the home with dynamite. Apparently, the perpetrator was a private detective whom Stimson hired. Harry Coyne convinced Stimson that a Mexican criminal was out to…
The village of Rippletown was erected in the 1980s. It became a popular hub when a sawmill brought in jobs and opportunities. Eventually, the village grew big enough to become a hub of sorts and needed a schoolhouse. The Rippletown School was built on the corner of Church Road and Lines Lane. It didn’t take long for the rise and fall of the town to abandon the schoolhouse. The reason for the closure was due to the lack of teachers. Locals believe that ghostly phenomena pushed them out. One teacher said that they felt a bizarre presence the second they…
Witches are engrained in nearly every culture. Their mysterious ways tend to be talked about differently depending on who is telling the story. Ideals of witchcraft change from culture to culture. Some believe that simply being a woman who stood against the stereotypes of being a woman was enough to be accused of witchcraft. Others felt like practicing medicine was enough. The idea of a “witch” isn’t exactly a broomstick riding woman with a green face. Witches use many different things to practice their craft. These women showcased some of the different ways to be a witch. Catherine Monvoisin was…
A group of archaeologists has discovered a gigantic mound that is dated to be more than four thousand years old. It has taken years for the archaeologists to successfully excavate this mountain. Inside of the mound is an ancient burial complex, similar to the Egyptian pyramids. The remains of around 30 soldiers were found inside, which made the archaeologists believe that this mound was specifically a military memorial. After some more investigating, the archaeologists made the conclusion that they found the oldest memorial ever. It does not seem like this was a mass burial grave, but more so a site…

So, on July 14th, 1911, the train left the station with 100 passengers and six…
The St. Augustine Lighthouse was built between 1871 and 1874. The home for the lighthouse keepers was built in 1876. The keepers of the lighthouse oversaw the rough and tumble seas as they guided the ships to the coast. Of course, the sea isn’t always so kind and a lot of tragedy has happened. Not only did the lighthouse oversee a lot of shipwrecks, but there were also a handful of deaths that happened on the property. Sometime in the late 1900s, a young girl was playing on the railroad near the lighthouse and was struck by a train. She…
