The National Basketball Association (NBA) partnered with Canada Goose, a company that supports the brutal extermination of coyotes, ducks and geese. It shouldn’t.

Attn: NBA, you know the facts.
The ball is on your side, will you give up this brutal partnership?

Posted by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) Friday 5 March 2021

The NBA has announced a multi-year agreement whereby Canada Goose will partner in outerwear for the league’s annual All-Star Game and “Canada Goose will develop an exclusive design collaboration” for the league each year. If the NBA is truly committed to its mission of “leading[ing] in good faith “and behaves” in accordance with the highest standards of honesty, ethics and integrity “, should reconsider its relationship with Canada Goose as long as the company sells natural fur and down.

Both geese and coyotes are known to partner with and support their species, and when they choose a mate, they usually stay with them for life. But Canada Goose is trying to get consumers to think of these animals as materials– not the social, thinking beings that they are.

The company has a long history of hiding brutality in their uniforms. He pledged to stop buying “new” fur starting in 2022, but whether the fur is labeled “new” or “recycled,” it comes from coyotes caught in steel traps where they can stay bloody for days. crippled legs before the hunters return to shoot, club, or otherwise violently kill them.

And, despite the hackneyed statements of the company about the use of “responsible” fluff, this simply does not exist. The Responsible Conduct Standard (RDS) is really just a marketing tool. Even if the suppliers followed the standards, they would still be allowed to let the wounded birds languish in agony for several days before being required to take their suffering out of them. Regardless of where the fluff comes from, all birds are sent to the slaughterhouse, where they are usually hung upside down and stunned, their throats cut and immersed in hot water in tanks to remove the fluff.

Many NBA players, including Chris Andersen, Ty Lawson, Gilbert Arenas and Dennis Rodman, have teamed up with PETA to oppose the violence inherent in the fur trade, and the vast majority of Americans oppose the wearing of fur. There are many ethical vegan businesses out there that better represent the NBA and its fans across the country.

    What can you do
Please persuade the NBA to reconsider its relationship with Canada Goose while the company sells natural fur and down.
