Mexico City – “We are all the same in every way”, Cate del castillo – says at the beginning of her new PETA video, in which she transforms into images of different women, men and animals, ending with a bull. PETA Latino launches video plea to express sympathy everything animals as part of its campaign to raise awareness of spessishism – the human-supremacist mindset that other animals are inferior, which supposedly makes it acceptable to abuse them – and end bullfighting in Latin America.

“It doesn’t matter if we have fur, feathers or fins; the shape of our face; or the number of legs – we are no different, ”says del Castillo in the video. “We feel separate from the rest, but none of us deserves less respect.”

Chickens, mice, fish, sheep and bulls experience pain and fear just like humans, but because of their specialty they are exploited for profit and are treated with almost unimaginable cruelty. For example, in a typical bullfight, people on horseback thrust spears into the back and neck of the bull, limiting its ability to raise its head. Then others sink in banderillas into his back. Finally, after the animal is weakened from blood loss, a matador appears and tries to kill him by cutting his aorta or spinal cord with a sword. The bull may be paralyzed, but is still conscious when his body is pulled out of the arena.

“Our challenge must be to free ourselves from prejudices,” concludes del Castillo, “and see ourselves in every other.”

Del Castillo, who joined PETA’s Honorary Board of Directors in 2020, is on a long list of celebrities, including Dulce Maria, Alfonso Herrera, Jesse and Joy, Christopher von Uckermann, Luis Gerardo Mendes and Marjorie de Sousa, who have teamed up with PETA or its affiliates to promote animal kindness.

PETA, whose motto is in part that “animals are not in our hands to abuse them in any way” – opposes arrogance. For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
