Orlando, Florida. “When does SeaWorld realize that in order to survive, it must end the sexual assault and forced impregnation of dolphins and whales and send them to seaside reserves instead?” This is the question that Ungovernable as well as Queen of the South star and honorary director of PETA Cate del castillo will pose for SeaWorld’s executives at the company’s annual online meeting on Friday.
“Over the past year, many people have gained a new understanding of what life can be like for animals kept in SeaWorld parks, where isolation never ends,” says del Castillo in a statement made available in full for SeaWorld. here… “Rather than producing generation after generation of animals that will suffer in cramped reservoirs, SeaWorld can establish the most advanced forms of animal-free entertainment.”
PETA, whose motto is in part that “animals are not meant for our entertainment,” notes that dolphins naturally swim up to 60 miles a day, dive to nearly 1,500 feet, and maintain dynamic relationships within a large social network. But at SeaWorld, 140 dolphins are packed into just seven small tanks. Female dolphins are taken out of the water and sometimes drugged to prevent them from resisting while the staff shoves tubes filled with sperm into their uterus.
Del Castillo belongs to an ever-growing list of celebrities, including Alec Baldwin, P! Nk, Pamela Anderson, as well as Gillian Anderson– who have teamed up with PETA to challenge SeaWorld at its annual meetings.
