UN LAB Middleware Label: End Names
Hearing that Asiatic palm civets suffer when taken from their homes in nature, stuffed into cramped cages and forced to eat an unnatural amount of coffee berries so that their excrement can be sold as kopi-luwak coffee, many businesses have done so. a compassionate decision to pull it off the shelves.
Others, like Bacha Coffee, have decided to continue to profit from animal suffering to create a new product that no one wants.
PETA investigators visited the kopi-luwak farms and found alarming brutality in all. Night civets, naturally fearful of humans, were trapped in small wire cages in the sun with no dark place to sleep and subjected to a constant barrage of unwanted human contact. Their cells were covered in feces, rotting berries and other impurities, and they were constantly suffocating from the heat. Numerous civet cats showed signs of extreme psychological distress, including pacing and biting themselves. The researchers saw several animals with open bloody wounds, but the cats did not appear to have received any veterinary treatment. At least one was blind.
Civet cats were fed an unnatural and unhealthy diet of excessive amounts of coffee berries to maximize farm profits. Many of them lost their fur due to malnutrition.
In a message to PETA, Bacha Coffee stated that it only sells “100% wild and ethical kopi luwak coffee.” Kopi-luwak sellers usually make similar claims, but farmers told PETA investigators that collecting enough wild civet excrement to make coffee is nearly impossible. One grower admitted that they can collect small amounts of beans from freed civets, mix them with the beans from their cages, and mistakenly call coffee “wild.” Another told an investigator, who was posing as a customer, that he could have simply labeled civet-caged coffee as “wild.”
It’s time to end the shit
Kopi luwak is not a delicacy – it is a shame. No matter what country you are in and what assurances you have received, please do not buy or drink it.
PETA sent Bacha Coffee proof that wild civet coffee is in fact a lie, but has ignored our requests to stop selling it. Help us convince Bacha Coffee to stop funding civet abuse by stopping the sale of kopi-luwak today.
