Alice, TX – See the following statement by PETA Vice President Dr. Alka Chandna regarding a felony charge against Texas monkey importer and US laboratory supplier Gary Tucker of the Orient BioResource Center for lying to federal agents while investigating the illegal monkey trade:
PETA applauds federal agents investigating monkey trafficking in US laboratories. PETA has long suspected wrongdoing by these dubious import companies, and has documented the suffering of monkeys stuffed into small wooden crates, stacked in airplane cargo holds and sent in fear around the world, sometimes dying en route. These animals may harbor deadly human-killing pathogens – an experimenter in China recently died after contracting the monkey B virus – and the horrors these primates face as test subjects should (and will one day become) illegal. It’s time to end the monkey trade and modernize research, which now allows us to make technology.
PETA – whose motto, among other things, is that “animals are not ours to experiment or otherwise abuse” – opposes arrogance, a worldview focused on human superiority. For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
