Brumfield, Colorado. – Compassionate Business Award moves from PETA to Crocs, which just announced that it is removing leather from its designs and will go vegan by the end of the year – a welcome move following PETA’s decades-old appeal to its bosses. This decision is part of Crocs’ goal of becoming a zero-balance company by 2030.
“Crocs is taking the best possible steps to reduce carbon emissions. track and preventing the hanging and slaughter of tender cows, ”says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA notes that this conscientious company has taken a big step towards creating the vegan world we all need.”
A video footage of PETA, the world’s largest leather manufacturer, showed tender cows and bulls were branded, shocked and beaten before being killed for their skins. Converting animal skins into leather requires the use of 130 chemicals, including cyanide, and the production of leather leads to huge carbon emissions that contribute to climate change. The World Bank also reported that livestock has been responsible for over 80% of deforestation in the Amazon since 1970.
Crocs will receive a framed certificate and a box of delicious vegan chocolates.
PETA – whose motto is in part that “the animals are not ours” – opposes arrogance, a worldview focused on human excellence. For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
