The internet went viral in 2016 when Jared Cook – then close to Green Bay Packers – made a disturbing discovery by digging into Buffalo Wild Wings take-out chicken wings: fried chicken head… “This is not the first time I remember the news from the 90s, when [McDonald’s] had a head in nuggets, “commented one Twitter user. Now, five years later, a similar disturbing discovery has occurred – this time involving a Pennsylvania pizzeria. Brittany Polhamus’ diner found a severed chicken head in her take-out order of chicken wings. “I turned it around, and whenever I saw a beak and an eye, I would throw it and scream,” she reportedly admitted. “So we are in a state of distrust at the moment.”
But some people commenting on the viral post were not shocked: “Oh, no chicken in my chicken. the cognitive dissonance is real here, ”one of them remarked.
At first it was pig nipples, then chicken nails. Animals need us to stop being shocked when dead animal parts enter the order of their dead body parts.
Once cut, fried, deep-fried and topped with Buffalo sauce, it’s perhaps easy to forget that “wings” were once really chicken wings – and that chickens need their wings and we don’t. These are our fellow countrymen who, just like us, are capable of experiencing pain, grief, motherly love, joy, anxiety and much more. Nipple bacon Chicken carcass “zombie”, a frozen duck head, a jumping fish carcass– These viral anecdotes serve as a dramatic reminder that no one wants to be killed for food.
