Severe injuries, dead and dying chickens, rotting bodies strewn across the faeces-covered floor of damp, dark barns: this is the essence of the poultry farm video recently submitted to PETA by an anonymous eyewitness, and this is why our message has always been “Become a vegan”, because poultry is the norm :
In an interview with PETA, the videographer explained how one chicken “had a neck so broken that its head was dragged along the ground; she had no choice but to trip over her own head as she tried to walk. ”We wish this person name this dirty farm that will allow us to press owners to make changes and push local law enforcement to investigate. But we don’t need to know the identity of the farm to be sure of one important fact: suffering like the ones shown above is what chickens used for food endure every day on farms across the country.
For decades, PETA revelations and undercover investigations identified a similar rampant abuse of chickens in the meat industry.
Even chickens raised on so-called “humane” farms are subject to rigorous industry standards. Consider the PETA UK eyewitness accounts of two farms that allegedly raised chickens in a way described as “high welfare” (a term that Americans perhaps best know as “humanely raised”). As with the unidentified farm above, the barn floors on these British farms were strewn with the corpses of dead chickens – some birds had to climb over the corpses of their friends to get food or water.
Bunkers with dead chickens were also seen on both farms near the barns.
Chickens who survive in dire farm conditions have their throats cut when they are around 6 weeks old.
The revelation of PETA Australia, the nation’s largest chicken producer, also exposed similar horrors, including the fact that many lame, injured or sick birds were suffering and slowly dying.
Due to the stress of overcrowding in the house, many birds fought with each other, often with fatal injuries.
And in the US, PETA’s own revelations have taken the lid off the chicken industry, revealing widespread human suffering that deserves better. In a huge hatchery owned by Sanderson Farms, Inc. (which supplies chicken to Kroger, Sysco, Arby’s and Chili’s), a PETA investigator noticed that the chickens were hatching alone in sterile plastic crates, deprived of warmth, comfort and care – some gasped. for air and were too weak to stand or look up. As in the footage of this anonymous person, in Sanderson, dying and dead chickens were scattered all over the place, and one of them suffered a broken neck.

And at the Tyson slaughterhouse in Heflin, Alabama (a major KFC supplier), a PETA investigator watched workers punch and decapitate chickens, and force them into shackles. The leaders were aware of most of the violence, but did nothing to stop it.
In 2004 and 2005, PETA conducted a covert investigation into Tyson’s slaughterhouse in Heflin, Alabama, revealing obscene cruelty to chickens raised and killed for food. In 2020, two Tyson Kill workers shared their stories that confirmed that for chickens and workers, the company’s slaughterhouses are still hell on earth.
The only sure way to avoid supporting this misery is to become a vegan.
