Two brave dogs rescued their humans on a Keswick Mountain trail in Cumbria, England. According to a report from the BBC, one of the rescuers said the dogs exhibited behavior he’s only seen dogs “trained for years” do.

While hiking the Brathwaite How trail on Keswick Mountain, the 71-year-old dog parent fell and lost consciousness. Later reports said he had had a seizure.

Fortunately, his puppies were quickly on their feet.

How These Two Dogs Saved Their Humans

One of the puppies, a black Labrador, remembered a hiker who had passed them recently and set out to find them. The hiker told rescuers, who arrived later, that the dog barked incessantly at her, “trying to get her to return.”

When she took the hint and turned around, she found the unconscious man with his other friend, a Golden Retriever, watching over him. She immediately called for help.

    A whole team effort!

Rob Grange, one of the Keswick Mountain rescue officials, was briefed on the events of the hiker who made the call. He told BBC Radio Cumbria that they have ” been training dogs to behave like this for years” and that he had never seen anyone do it “off their own back”.

“We get the dogs to do the exact same thing, but we spend years training those natural traits to make sure they do it completely reliably,” Grange said.

“It’s not uncommon for a dog to do this, but the fact that a completely untrained dog decided to do this is absolutely amazing.”

Grange further added to his report that he had not encountered such an incident “in ten years of mountain rescue”.

But for those of us who read stories about dog heroes on a daily basis, we all know that this is exactly the kind of thing our best friends are known for.
