San Francisco – On Friday, a herd of PETA supporters wearing donkey masks will jump, kick and stir up unrest at the Greek Consulate General, calling for an end to the notorious cruel donkey rides in Santorini. The action follows PETA’s investigations, in which it is revealed that donkeys are beaten by tourist advertisers, who make them climb more than 500 slippery steps with tourists on their backs.
When: Friday, September 10, 12 noon
Where: Consulate General of Greece, 2441 Gough St., San Francisco
“Forcing donkeys to drag tourists up a steep slope is emaciating, painful and bloody animals,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “PETA wants the Greek government to stop treating these long-suffering donkeys like a taxi.”
PETA, whose motto is in part that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way,” is opposed to arrogance, a worldview focused on human superiority.
