Tourists from New York certainly don’t visit the Big Apple hoping to see bloody animals on the streets, and horses certainly don’t sign up to be used in a cruel and dangerous wagon. Yet we are here, dismayed and disappointed by another brutal incident. This time, the bloody accident left Midtown Street, and the heavy carriage, which had to be pulled by a horse named Chief, burst into his blood.

Photos of the aftermath, also released by NYCLASS (a local nonprofit animal rights organization), show the street and sidewalk covered in large bloodstains. “The carriage was badly damaged, and its axles were also covered in blood” – further confirmation of the severity of the accident.

If you are visiting an unfamiliar city and need transportation, call a taxi, take the metro, rent a bike from the bike rental service, or just take a walk. The carriage ride may be a passing pastime for tourists, but it keeps the horses alive in agony and forced labor.
