PETA has been reporting this for months, and now one of the nation’s leading newspapers has released startling new information that supports our claim that Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), should be immediately removed from office.
Washington Post showed that Collins and one of his top aides, Anthony Fauci, endorsed and funded experiments in pathogenetic engineering – so-called “functionality enhancement studies” – that could make deadly viruses even more infectious or virulent. And they did it without the usual transparency and with a weakened scientific review committee.
It seems to be about the consolidation of power and power of Collins. The Scientific Review Committee informs mail, was reduced to an advisory council, whose veto power was removed. In one experiment, funded by the National Institutes of Health, the bird flu virus was actually used as a weapon. This already deadly virus was not easily transmitted through the air, but genetic changes made it transmittable among mammals. Scientists who have studied the work say that if it were released, it could kill 4 billion people in no time.
Then the experimenters wanted to publish a study that included a kind of “how” to develop the virus. Some scientists feared that publishing the study might show attackers how to create a virus that could be used in biological warfare. They objected. But, reports Mail, Collins and Fauci – behind the scenes – lobbied for its publication, effectively appointing themselves arbiters of what is safe, effective, and important. The research has been published.
Keep in mind that this deadly virus game is run by the NIH, the same agency where employees discovered 12 long-abandoned cardboard boxes containing 300 vials of infectious agents scattered about the room in 2014. Some of these vials contained the smallpox virus. Bottles have been used for decades –decades!– earlier and should have been destroyed.
It is also the same National Institutes of Health, where rampant negligence, brutality and repeated violations of federal laws occur on an almost daily basis. As we noted earlier, 75 cases serious animal welfare violations were reported in NIH Maryland laboratories between January 2018 and June 2021. The animals were suffocating, starving, and dying of dehydration. They were injected with the wrong drugs and subjected to unauthorized procedures. They were stuck in pieces of equipment and died desperately trying to escape. One mouse caught fire – yes, you read that right – when the experimenters did not notice that alcohol fumes were generated during the heat-generating operation.
But is this an agency that the public trusts to fund research into viruses that could wipe out half the planet, and are we going to leave Collins in charge? The answer must be a firm no.
We already knew that Collins too often puts science on the sidelines. He is well aware that animal experiments do not lead to cures for humans. But he appears to be more concerned with maintaining his reputation among animal experimenters, while he is throwing half of the agency’s $ 41 billion budget out the window on cruel and mindless animal experimentation, despite overwhelming scientific evidence that research in animals in the overwhelming majority of cases do not lead to effective methods of treatment and cure. with human diseases. But mailThe report adds an ominous new layer to Collins’ board.
PETA has already shown that Collins cannot maintain order in his own home. We just learned that the director of our country’s main research center is not a leader – he is a comic book villain.
