Des Moines, Iowa – In time for the Iowa State Fair, one of the largest agricultural and industrial trade shows in the country, PETA is placing patriotic ads on local buses promoting vegan food that benefits animals, promotes health, benefits the environment, and is a way for the country’s farmers to a future – plus it’s as American as apple pie.
“The Iowa State Fair is the perfect time to chill out with vegetable burgers, soy dogs, corn on the cob and egg-free potato salad,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “PETA’s advertising focuses on a genuine love of animal-free farming, and Iowa is already a leading producer of soybeans and corn.”
Report in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America states that if American farmers used all the land currently dedicated to raising cows, pigs and chickens to grow plants for human consumption, they could feed more than twice as many people as now. And such a move will prevent the suffering of animals used for food in overcrowded premises and a terrible trip to the slaughterhouse, where they are hung and their throats cut. Livestock is also responsible for greenhouse gases, massive water consumption, groundwater pollution and pollution of faecal ponds, and these are linked to colon and prostate cancer, diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure.
PETA, whose motto is in part that “the animals are not ours to eat” – opposes arrogance, a worldview focused on human superiority. For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
Each bus will run PETA advertisements for four weeks and will travel across the greater Des Moines region, including travel to and from the fair.
