Insects are in danger. Researchers have found that populations of some insects can decrease by a third in just a few decades. By comparison, a third of all polar bears are likely to die in 40 years. The insect crisis is as serious as the polar bear crisis, and scientists are urging the public to act now.
Like bears and humans, insects want to get rid of suffering and pain. Bees are known to work together to save the lives of their friends, and cockroaches are individuals with unique personalities. In the midst of the insect apocalypse, we must work together to help them survive.
Follow the tips below to show kindness to all types of persons.
6 tips to help our six-legged friends
1. Be the protector of the smallest among us.
The easiest way to save insects is to protect them. It’s important to remember to empathize all animals big and small. Let your family know about the bees when you sit down to dinner, as you have pollinators to thank for the vegetables on your plate. Or tell your friends about the love life of insects, such as how male crickets sing a courtship serenade to females. How cute!
2. Reduce your environmental impact by becoming a vegan.
The two biggest threats to insects are habitat loss and the climate crisis. The best way to reduce your ecological footprint is by becoming a vegan. Millions of cows raised for subsistence suffer in huge, muddy feedlots that pose a threat to the environment. World Bank reported which the this practice has contributed to the deforestation of up to 91% of forests.… The easiest way to combat climate change is to ditch animals altogether.
3. Make your yard an insect paradise.
Bees (and a whole family of other pollinators) are one of the most important links in our food chain. Bees alone are boosting US crop production by $ 18 billion, so the least we can do is offer their some food… As the natural habitat of many insects is destroyed, yards are becoming increasingly important for the conservation of both plants and animals.
4. Buy native plants for your home and yard.
Adding native plants to your home is a win-win. They give the local insects living in the area more benefits. Plus, they’re well adapted to the local climate and rainfall, so they tend to be easier to care for than non-native plants, even if you don’t have a green toe.
5. Take action for bugs killed for the candy.
According to one entomologist, insects are already facing “death from a thousand cuts.” However, the two companies are still killing lacquer insects to create a hard shiny shell on their candy. Nearly 100,000 insects are destroyed to produce just 1 pound of shellac flakes for the Red Hots and Junior Mints. Stay away from these brutally produced chocolates by Ferrara and Tootsie Roll Industries, respectively, and learn more about lacquer bugs at the link below.
6. Buy insect-free sweets.
You can find vegan candy at any grocery store or local market. Some of our favorites are Sour Patch Kids, Jolly Rancher Lollipops, and Fruit by the Foot. From gummies to gummies, there is something vegetarian for every taste. Check out the long list of animal-free snacks below that you may not even know are vegan.
Protect insects today and every day
All insects have a place in our world, be they butterflies or ants. They help people in countless ways. Bees, moths, beetles and flies are the main pollinators that fertilize crops. Insects also purify our air and water and regulate our soil systems. We depend on insects every day, and now they should be able to depend on us. If you are a compassionate person who will not harm a fly, show it with PETA’s humane insect catcher.
