Norfolk, Virginia. – House in Los Angeles, fictionalized as “Elm 1428”, the façade of which appears in the classic 1984 horror film. A Nightmare on Elm Street is up for sale with offers due before Halloween. So, today PETA sent a letter to Heather T. Roy and Lirke Bosnak of Douglas Elliman Real Estate urging agents to bring attention to the house once again – this time as a pop-up museum of empathy in memory of the hundreds of tortured animals. in experiments on “scare the monkeys”, which were carried out for decades using funds from taxpayers of the National Institutes of Health and are still ongoing.
While the film’s villain, Freddy Krueger, uses a glove with sharp claws to torture his victims in their sleep, real-life torturer and government experimenter Elizabeth Murray cuts the monkeys’ heads, slices off part of their skulls to expose their brains, and then injects toxins into them. The monkeys are then placed alone in a small metal cage, and the experimenters set out to scare them with fake but realistic looking snakes and spiders. In the end they are killed.
“Kruger’s torment was fictional, but the monkey fright experiments take place in a real horror house,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “PETA’s pop-up museum will foster compassion for animals used in experiments to study fear, which will surely cause nightmares until they are killed.”

PETA organizations have over 9 million members and supporters around the world, including hundreds of thousands across California. I am contacting you on behalf of PETA US, the largest animal rights organization in the world, to learn more about the property located at 1428 N. Genesee Ave. at Spaulding Square. Considering this is a house known for appearing in a horror classic A A Nightmare on Elm StreetWe are interested in exploring the possibility of transforming it into a pop-up museum of empathy for the hundreds of monkeys who have been tortured for years in monkey fright experiments.
You may already be familiar with Freddy Krueger, who sadistically terrorizes, tortures and kills his victims while they sleep using a glove with sharp claws. Although he is a fictional character, in real life many victims have similar painful and frightening experiences in Elizabeth Murray’s “fear of money” experiments at the National Institutes of Health. She cuts the heads of the monkeys, cuts off part of their skulls, chemically burns parts of their brains, places them in a metal box, and then terrorizes them with realistic rubber snakes and spiders. She then leaves the monkeys in a stainless steel cage and goes home to her expensive condominium.
We’re always looking for ways to draw attention to the violence inherent in gross and cruel experimentation, and this emerging museum of empathy will shed light on how monkeys – who dream just like humans – must relive the horror of their frightening and painful experiences every night. And during the day they never know when new horrors will be inflicted on them. Our museum will also expose the cruel irony that a person ostensibly studying neuropsychiatric disorders is performing acts of total lack of empathy, much like Kruger.
Transforming A Nightmare on Elm Street Home to a museum of compassion for these sacrifices will help people remember that, like humans, all animals are made of flesh and blood and are capable of experiencing fear and suffering, as well as joy and love. Please let us know if this home could serve as a local pop-up museum to inspire visitors to speak out against horrific, unnecessary animal testing, at least until you sell it.
