PETA sent grocers Wegmans and Harris Teeter evidence of gruesome turkey abuse that we found at several suppliers for Plainville Farms – proof that the company’s “humane” labels are meaningless. However, both Wegmans and Harris Teeter continue to fill their shelves with Plainville Farms and mislead customers.
In 2021, an undercover PETA investigation revealed that workers at several Plainville Farms supplying farms kicked, stomped and beat turkeys with a heavy stick. The researcher saw staff attacking birds to instill fear, express frustration, or simply “for fun.” The workers threw the birds by the wing, neck, head and bandage. They even tied their bandages together and laughed.
Dead and dying turkeys could be seen every night on every farm visited by the investigator. The birds received no treatment for illness or injury and remained to die in misery. The animals were overcrowded, tense and frightened. They were weak due to being overweight (bred to gain weight quickly). Even before they are slaughtered, which is terrible, the birds raised for their flesh suffer.
