Baytown, TX – PETA placed a billboard “I want you to change” featuring a cow outside the Azteca De Oro Meat Market and Restaurant and Going’s BBQ Co. Steakhouse, hoping that shoppers and visitors can change heart about picking up a steak for your valentine.
“Cows and humans are the same when it comes to pain, loneliness and valuing their own lives,” says PETA executive vice president Tracy Reiman. “PETA asks everyone to show a little compassion by removing cows from the menu in their hearts.”
Cows in the meat industry are often kept in cramped and muddy feedlots with no weather protection. In the slaughterhouse, workers shoot them in the head with a pistol with captive bolts, hang them by one leg, and slit their throats, often while they are still conscious. Every person who goes vegan reduces the risk of health problems like heart disease and helps prevent epidemics and pandemics. SARS, swine flu, avian flu, and COVID-19 all arose from keeping and killing animals for food.
On its website, PETA offers delicious lean meat recipes, a vegan starter kit with tips, and a vegan mentoring program to provide personalized advice on cooking, shopping, and more.
PETA’s billboard is located at 1102 N. Main St., Baytown.
PETA, whose motto is in part that “the animals are not ours to eat” – opposes arrogance, a worldview focused on human superiority. For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
