San Diego – This morning, following a call from the San Diego County Democratic Central Committee to ban fireworks at SeaWorld, PETA sent a letter to Mayor Todd Gloria and City Council Environment Committee members urging them to ban everything frequent fireworks for locals, pets and wildlife.

Locals report that the SeaWorld fireworks, which explode over Mission Bay more than 100 times a year, deafen, knock on windows, and scare their animal companions. Fireworks are also known to cause wild animals to flee onto roads and buildings or abandon their nests – and cause stress in many captive wildlife, which I can not avoid explosions. Exploding fireworks also release chemical pollutants into the air and water.

“SeaWorld terrorizes residents, companion animals and wildlife with rumbles and explosions that sound like all-out war,” said Jared Goodman, vice president and deputy general counsel for animal law at PETA. PETA calls on city leaders to stop noise and pollution by banning frequent fireworks.

PETA, whose motto is in part that “animals are not in our hands to be abused in any way,” is opposed to arrogance, a worldview focused on human superiority. For more information please visit PETA.org…
