Southlake, TX – AND Compassionate Police Department Award moves from PETA to Southlake Department of Public Safetywho began acting on Valentine’s Day to rescue a dog named Shadow, who fell through thin ice in a frozen pond near White’s Chapel. Sergeant Gaylon Music boldly walked into the pond, broke through the ice and worked his way through the icy water up to his shoulders to reach the dog. He was soon followed by a Shadowguard with a float, and officers worked with him to lift the dog onto the float and haul it ashore. There is a video of the rescue available here…
“This dog could easily have drowned in cold water or died of hypothermia, if not for the kindness and speed of action of the Southlake Public Safety Department,” says PETA vice president Colleen O’Brien. “PETA hopes this happy ending will inspire everyone to care for animals in need, especially during dangerous inclement weather.”
PETA – whose motto, in particular, is that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way” and which opposes arrogance, a worldview focused on human superiority –reminds all dog guards to keep their companion animals by their side when walking use a leash and a comfortable secure harness and keep a close eye on them when they are outside.
Southlake Public Safety will receive a framed certificate, letter and boxes of delicious vegan cookies.
