Winston-Salem, North Carolina “We are a family. No shoes, no food.” This is an appeal of a mother cow and her calf to new PETA announcement they are now affixed to buses near Hanes Mall, a mall that houses steakhouses and eateries including Texas Roadhouse, Dave & Buster’s and Red Robin, and leather stores including Birkenstock, Buckle, Journeys and Dillard’s … Advertising encourages everyone to show empathy and make good choices when shopping.
“Like humans, cows are made of flesh and blood; feel pain, joy and fear; love your babies and mothers; and cherish their lives, ”says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “PETA’s message is that we can all show kindness to these gentle animals simply by choosing delicious vegan burgers or stylish vegan boots.”
A PETA video exposing Brazilian company JBS SA – the world’s largest leather processor – showed workers branded cows and bulls in the face, shocked them with electric shocks and beat them before killing them for meat and skin. After a lifetime in confinement, cows are usually sent to slaughterhouses, where workers slit their throats and even skin and dismember some while they are still conscious.
Anyone who goes vegan not only saves the lives of nearly 200 animals each year, but also helps prevent future pandemics. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “approximately 75 percent of newly emerging infectious diseases affecting humans began with animal diseases.” Both the meat and leather industries keep, transport and kill animals in dirty, cramped conditions in which zoonoses can develop and spread.
PETA advertising posted on the Winston-Salem Transit Authority buses near Hanes Shopping Center (3320 Silas Creek Pkwy.).
PETA, whose motto is, in part, “Animals are not ours to eat,” is opposed to specisism, a human supremacist worldview that encourages violence against other animals. For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group onTwitter, Facebook, orInstagram…
