Rochester, Minnesota – PETA is demanding that owner and operator of Moulton Chinchilla Ranch (MCR) Dan Moulton cease his chinchilla breeding activity, so the group is advertising on eight local buses, gathering people to help the suffering animals there. PETA covert investigation video found that nearly 1,000 chinchillas in Moulton’s custody had been trapped in open wire cages and deprived of veterinary care for abscesses, swollen, pus-filled eyes, exposed bones, severe dullness, and other painful injuries.
“Sick and injured chinchillas languished in pain and died in Dan Moulton’s hell,” says PETA senior vice president of cruelty investigation Daphne Nachminovich. “PETA calls on the public to join us in demanding an extension of punishment for the long-suffering animals still kept there.”
PETA, whose motto, in particular, is that “animals are not ours to abuse,” notes that MCR has nearly a decade of history of dozens of animal welfare violations. Chinchillas died there in horrific ways, including one who was attacked by Moulton’s dog and left to suffer overnight without care, and another who died after several weeks of suffering from an open, bloody wound. Moulton also confessed to killing chinchillas, brutally breaking their necks.
Based on PETA evidence, the Rochester Community and Technical College Veterinary Technician program has completed its study visits to the mill. Atlas Pet Supply near Minneapolis has ditched MCR as a supplier and is revising its chinchilla sales after its CEO called conditions there “completely unacceptable.”
There are photos from the investigation available here… PETA stands against racism, a worldview based on human superiority. For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
