College Station, Texas – To push Texas A&M University to end all experimentation with golden retrievers and other dogs in its canine muscular dystrophy (MD) lab and release the remaining dogs for adoption, a PETA supporter will cage himself as well as realistic-looking stuffed dogs right on the street. Veterinary school graduation will take place tomorrow.

When: Wednesday, May 12, 8:00 AM

Where: 730 Olsen Blvd., College Station

“The goal of the veterinary school is to teach students how to treat animals, not torture them,” says PETA’s vice president of laboratory research, Dr. Alka Chandna. “The 2021 class will surely agree with PETA: Dogs don’t deserve to suffer in pointless experiments or spend their entire lives not feeling loved.”

The footage, published by PETA, shows golden retrievers and other Texas A&M dogs that were deliberately bred to develop an ugly and painful form of canine MD struggling to walk, swallow, and even breathe. Thanks to the efforts of PETA, the school has completed its dog breeding program. Many dogs were released for adoption, but 20 remain in sterile cages. Nearly 40 years of these experiments have not led to a cure or treatment to reverse the symptoms of BD in humans.

PETA, whose motto is in part that “animals are not ours to experiment on” – opposes arrogance, a worldview focused on human excellence.
