Miami – This weekend marks 51 years since Lolita, a terribly lonely killer whale housed at the Miami Marine Aquarium, was abducted from her family off the coast of Washington, and on Saturday, to commemorate this sad occasion, a killer whale in a suit will dive into the water to appeal … for releasing Lolita back into the ocean. More and more PETA supporters will protest against the fact that PETA has spent more than five decades in the world’s smallest killer whale aquarium.
When: Saturday, August 7, 12 noon
Where: 1221 Brickell Ave. (at the intersection with SE 12th Ter.), Miami
“Without human help, Lolita will not be able to break out of this particular cage and return to a family and home that has been denied to her for more than five decades,” says PETA executive vice president Tracy Reiman. “PETA wants her to spend her final years in a seaside sanctuary where she can finally feel the ocean currents instead of the walls of concrete walls – the Miami Aquarium owes her.”
PETA, whose motto is in part that “the animals are not ours to be used for entertainment” – opposes arrogance, a worldview focused on human superiority. For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
