The term “factory farm” brings to mind images of cows standing among their own feces. But did you know that dogs are also bred in factories? Thousands of dogs are graduated each year to compete in grueling races that offer money to dog sled drivers (also called “drivers”). and suffering to dogs. When dogs are not running hundreds of miles over rough terrain, they are usually limited to short heavy chains, kept outdoors with no or no protection from piercing wind or snow.
While companion animals have been known to seek out the graves of their guardians in a touching display of affection, it is known that when sledding, dogs in their graves and betray their loyalty. Dogs are used for Sledging isolated from each other and from human communication. The luge industry regularly denies dogs warmth, comfort and necessary medical attention in the name of profit and fun.
Why sled dogs don’t exist
As soon as elephants were brutally accustomed to performing on shows – these are not “circus elephants”, dogs, which are forced to run hundreds of miles, pulling a sled, are not “sled dogs”. There is no such breed as the “circus elephant” and such a dog as the “sled dog”.
To call any animal work that people are forced to do is arrogant… Discrimination against others because of the erroneous belief that one species is more important than another is arrogance. Animals are not objects that belong to us, but people with their own interests and lives.
In an expert opinion on industrial dog sledding, veterinarian Debi Zimmermann notes: “Massive networked dog storage … runs counter to legitimate dog care and social attitudes throughout the Western world. However, somehow this suffering becomes a legally acceptable ‘industry standard’ when someone profits from this abuse. “
These dogs are not indestructible sports equipment – they are just like the ones we live with in our homes and hearts. Every dog wants to live without suffering and pain.
Suffering is the industry standard
When treated like sports equipment, these social creatures are chained from the outside – sometimes only in a dilapidated wooden box or plastic barrel for shelter. Most objects little or no protection from harsh weather, including in winter, when temperatures often drop below zero.

In the Iditarod, dogs run through blinding snowstorms and freezing temperatures across the grueling Alaskan countryside for up to two weeks. At least 150 dogs have died since the race began, and countless others have died while chained outside, or killed simply because they lacked the rare speed and stamina to get through this stage.
These nurseries have little or no concern for sanitation or food safety.
Demand the end of the deadly dog racing
Industrial farmed dogs live in loneliness and despair. According to Zimmermann: “Cruelty is cruelty, cruelty; no matter how justified it is by those who will benefit from it. “
PETA’s protests, advertisements and alerts, as well as the determined efforts of our supporters, have prompted major sponsors to sever ties with Iditarod. ExxonMobil, Chrysler, Alaska Airlines and other Fortune 500 companies are no longer sponsoring the Death Race after learning of its brutality from PETA, but we must continue to pressure. Encourage Millennium Hotels and Resorts to sever ties with this event and save helpless dogs from unnecessary suffering.
