UN LAB Middleware Label: End Names
Ape experimenters, their trading groups and lobbyists have worked overtime to adhere to their cruel and useless research that is out of step with today’s ethics and science today. Apparently fearing that the truth about their inability to produce medicines and medicines would become public, people who made their living by harming monkeys argued that there were not enough monkeys. Right. People who trapped intelligent, sensitive monkeys in cold and sterile metal boxes and deprived them of everything that would make their lives worthwhile — torturing and killing them in painful, traumatic, and aggressive experiments — sold commodity bills to the public. The media is trying to get more monkeys to exploit and kill.
But PETA won’t let them escape punishment for their lies. Check out the statements made by the monkey experimenters and the facts.
REQUIRE: Last year, monkey experimenters have struggled to find monkeys to develop vaccines against COVID-19.
FACT: Vaccines were already in development when the monkey experimenters began to whine. We brought two vaccines to market in record time because years of animal testing failed. New research in monkeys is actually delaying getting the vaccine for humans. We need the acceptance of modern science, not apes. What’s more, monkeys are currently being used in absurd research on unhealthy food and stress, as well as in psychological tests based on curiosity. If experimenters are concerned about the “shortage” of monkeys for studying infectious diseases, why don’t they criticize the use of monkeys for these other purposes?
REQUIRE: Since monkeys and humans are genetically similar, we need monkeys to understand the new coronavirus.
FACT: Monkeys are not good models of coronaviruses – or anything else – in humans. They are not diminutive people. Monkeys are complex social creatures, like humans, but they have important differences genetically and physiologically. Their immune systems respond differently to pathogens and vaccines. Final studies show that the SARS-CoV-2 virus is adapting and mutating in the tissues of the monkeys. Monkeys infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 find themselves with this virus and another virus that has mutated and adapted to monkey cells. In short, the new coronavirus behaves differently in animals than in humans. Pfizer and Moderna, the developers of vaccines currently on the market, have also announced this.
It’s also worth noting that humans and chimpanzees have even more DNA than humans and apes. However, a 2013 report from the National Institutes of Health concluded that chimpanzee experimentation “rarely accelerated new discoveries or improvements in human health regarding infectious diseases.”
REQUIRE: There is a “monkey shortage” and we need to create a “strategic monkey sanctuary” that will serve as an “emergency reserve, similar to those supported by the government for oil and grain.”
FACT: Sixty years ago, the United States established its federal-funded National Primate Research Centers. Why do the monkey experimenters demand what they already have? Because primate centers have failed, no commercial vaccine has been developed in these laboratories using monkeys that breed, house, torture and kill thousands of monkeys every year. Moreover, monkeys are living things and should not be stockpiled as “emergency supplies.”
REQUIRE: Since the beginning of the pandemic, hundreds of animals have been experimented with with COVID-19.
FACT: We currently have two vaccines precisely because years of animal testing have failed. Although some animals have been used, the release from the lengthy testing process points to a new way forward. Scientists can and are developing effective treatments without using thousands of monkeys and other animals. Because of this, the monkey experimenters fear that the public will understand how irrelevant they are.
REQUIRE: National primate research centers need more money.
FACT: Sixty years – and tens, if not hundreds, thousands of monkeys – later, primate centers have failed to invent medicines and medicines for humans. The centers are an experiment that has failed, and it’s time to stop investing in this venture. They also don’t follow simple animal welfare laws and don’t breed healthy monkeys. See here for details. Let’s not throw good money into bad ones.
In 2015, Harvard University closed its national primate research center after evaluating numerous animal welfare impairments and failures in monkey experiments to produce drugs or vaccines for humans. For the sake of people waiting for a vaccine, animals and effective research, and to ensure that the US keeps up with advancing human research, other primate centers must do the same.
Join thousands of PETA supporters in calling for the immediate closure of National Primate Research Centers. Six decades of wasted money and lost lives is enough. Please send your members of Congress a polite email urging them to shut down the remaining primate centers.
