Austin, Minnesota. “After Planters urged people to drive its NUTmobiles distributing snacks across the country, PETA sent a letter to Jim Sney, CEO of Hormel Foods Corporation, which recently acquired Planters, with an offer. Since a quarter of Hormel’s sales will now come from non-meat products – and interest in vegan food is higher than ever – PETA has proposed teaming up to create downloadable vegan recipe brochures that include delicious peanut-based dishes like Asian ginger peanut soup. peanut soup. and peanut noodle salad.
“His nuts Don’t take vegan food when we know that today’s meat industry is responsible for the deaths of billions of animals each year and the destruction of the environment, ”says PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “PETA encourages Hormel to use peanuts and promote the plant-based proteins that today’s visitors need.”
PETA owns shares in Hormel and recently, at its virtual annual meeting, pushed the company to use its existing vegan Happy Little Plants line and move to pure vegan meat production.
PETA, whose motto is in part that “the animals are not ours to eat” – opposes arrogance, a worldview based on human superiority. For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…

Dear Mr. Snee:
On behalf of PETA and our 6.5 million members and supporters around the world, congratulations on your purchase of Planters. We’re big nut fans! And as a shareholder, we are delighted that this purchase includes the NUTmobile fleet, which we understand will soon be traveling across the country to showcase the brand. With 25% of Hormel’s sales now going to be meat-free, the NUTmobile tour provides a great opportunity to showcase vegan recipes.
As we noted at our recent Annual Meeting, Hormel can take advantage of the explosion in vegan food. We hope NUTmobiles does this by distributing recipe brochures that include all-vegan peanut recipes, including Thai Peanut Curry and Tofu Peanut Noodles. Creative chefs are now using peanuts and other nuts in recipes instead of meat, and this is a great time to be part of this trend.
As you may know, analysts are predicting that the vegan meat market will flourish at a compound annual growth rate of nearly 20%. Vegan meat sales have skyrocketed since the start of the pandemic, with one study recording a 454% increase in sales in March over the previous year, and finance company UBS predicts the plant-based meat market will grow 28% annually to reach $ 85 billion by 2030 year.
Could you take this opportunity to leverage the NUTmobile fleet to increase Hormel’s future market share by distributing downloadable recipe brochures? PETA will be happy to help create them or suggest recipe ideas. We look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Ingrid E. Newkirk
The president
