Lake Charles, Louisiana. “To commemorate the calves killed and injured on Friday after the truck carrying them capsized on I-10 W. at mile 33, PETA plans to post a note at the crash site that read:“See Human. Become a vegan.“
“The cows died in horror and agony due to this crash, and many of the injured survivors were reportedly shot to death while trying to escape, or were captured and dragged away, which probably ended up with their throats slashed and their bodies cut for food, says PETA senior director Daniel Katz. “The PETA exhibit will encourage anyone who is concerned about animals suffering and dying on the side of a road or in a slaughterhouse to go vegan.”
Cows in the meat industry are often kept in cramped and muddy feedlots with no weather protection. In the slaughterhouse, workers shoot them in the head with a pistol with captive bolts, hang them by one leg, and slit their throats – often while they are still conscious. Every person who goes vegan saves the lives of nearly 200 cows, pigs, chickens and other animals every year.
PETA notes that there have been at least 58 accidents this year involving trucks transporting animals for food, and that there were at least 89 last year.
PETA, whose motto is in part that “the animals are not ours to eat” – opposes arrogance, a worldview focused on human superiority. For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
