Fort Lauderdale, Florida. – Tomorrow, the shimmering PETA Mermaid will give beach lovers the famous Vegan Rabbit Hole crab cakes covered in crispy breadcrumbs, aromatic Cajun spices and homemade remoulade for free to beach lovers. The event matches two catchy new billboards in Miami and Fort Lauderdale urging everyone to recognize animals as individuals and become vegans.
When: Thursday 16 September 12:00
Where: At the intersection of E. Las Olas and Fort Lauderdale Beach, Fort Lauderdale.
“Crabs feel pain and fear when torn apart or boiled alive, just like humans,” says PETA executive vice president Tracy Reiman. “And because fish-free options are humane and With no cholesterol, PETA reminds everyone that vegan nutrition benefits all of us. ”
A PETA investigation into a crustacean slaughterhouse found that live crabs were impaled, torn apart, and decapitated – even as their legs continued to move. Cooks usually put live crabs in pots of boiling water while they are still conscious. Fish slowly suffocate or die as they are dragged out of the ocean in huge nets, and those that survive are slit through the throats and bellies on the decks of fishing boats. More fish die each year for food – billions in US waters alone – than all other animals combined.
PETA billboards are located in the following locations:
- 6593 FL-822, Fort Lauderdale
- Exit I-95 to I-41 / SW Seventh Street and Brickell Avenue, Miami
PETA – whose motto, in part, is that “the animals are not ours to eat,” and which opposes specisism, a worldview based on human superiority, notes that many varieties of artificial fish are available today, including Golden Fishless Filets Gardein, Good Catch’s Plant – Tuna-based, new plant-based shrimp from New Wave Foods, and Sophie’s Kitchen vegan crab cakes.
