Lakeland, Florida. – On Saturday, PETA mascots will knock down the “monkeys” hundreds from humanely selected coconuts outside Lakeland, home of Publix CEO Todd Jones, in response to continued sales of supermarket chain Chaokoh coconut milk even after two months of PETA Asia covert investigations found out that Chaoko makes monkeys, which are kept in cages and chained all their lives, to collect coconuts.
When: Saturday, August 21, 12 noon
Where: Lakeland
The Monkeys previously dumped coconuts outside Publix’s corporate office in Lakeland and Publix’s Orlando store – and the coconuts will continue to arrive until the company joins more than 33,000 stores that have banned monkey-linked brands of coconut milk.
“Every can of Chaokoh on Publix’s shelves represents the misery of a chained monkey,” says PETA executive vice president Tracy Reiman. “PETA is bringing to the attention of the CEO of Publix a message that nuts indulge in forced monkey labor. “
PETA, whose motto is in part that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way,” is opposed to arrogance, a worldview focused on human superiority.
