Bethesda, Maryland. – National Institutes of Health (NIH) experimenter Elizabeth Murray and her neighbors face a tough test Saturday when PETA supporters in monkey masks gather outside her home and play on tapes of distressed monkeys at the NIH lab. PETA is calling for an end to Murray’s “monkey fright” experiments in which she slams into monkey heads, injects toxins into their brains, surgically implants “head pillars” directly into their skulls to keep their heads motionless for hours, depriving them of food and water to make them work together and terrorize them with realistic looking snakes and spiders. Since 1998, it has received nearly $ 50 million from taxpayers – and has not released a single drug for humans.

“If Elizabeth Murray had a heart, the screams of the monkeys in her lab would echo in her dreams,” says PETA vice president Dr. Alka Chandna. “PETA tells her and her neighbors that senseless experimentation with monkey terror must stop.”
PETA, whose motto is in part that “animals are not ours to experiment on” – opposes arrogance, a worldview focused on human excellence.
