Seattle – When Jeff Bezos returned from the first launch of the Blue Origin rocket, he pledged to renew his commitment to fighting climate change, but as PETA notes in a letter sent to him this morning, these words contradict his chicken thigh pre-dinner and his infamous’ octopus for breakfast “. The United Nations says a global transition to a vegan diet is necessary to combat the worst effects of the climate crisis. But the increase in the amount of carbon in our atmosphere is not only due to the destruction of the Amazon rainforest for growing chicken and cow feed, but also due to what lies on the plates of people around the world.
“When someone talks about saving the planet, when their jaws are full of animals, it’s just a blow of hot air,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “PETA is committed to helping Jeff Bezos lead a healthy, humane and vegan lifestyle that will help save this planet.”
PETA notes that every person who goes vegan saves about 200 smart, sensitive and wonderful animals a year. For example, octopuses are known to caress and kiss each other, try to escape, and even throw water on their captors. Chicks talk to their chicks before they hatch and can solve puzzles.
PETA, whose motto is in part that “the animals are not ours to eat” – opposes arrogance, a worldview focused on human superiority. For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
This is followed by a letter from PETA to Bezos.

Dear Mr. Bezos:
I am writing on behalf of over 6.5 million of our members and supporters around the world to congratulate you on your space flight and your commitment to fighting climate change on Earth. Unfortunately, one key part of this commitment is missing, and we urge you to correct this omission. We were horrified when your promise contradicted your much-hyped octopus breakfast and your chicken thigh pre-dinner.
UN Says Global Shift to Vegan Diet need to to combat the worst impacts of the climate crisis and that livestock production is “one of the two or three most significant contributors to the most serious environmental problems on all scales, from local to global”. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change stated that there is an urgent need for all sectors to mitigate the effects of climate change, which cannot be achieved without addressing the issue of meat and dairy production. Could you go vegan now?
Given the link between climate change and livestock, a significant reduction in the consumption of meat and dairy products is essential. Commercial fishing has already resulted in widespread habitat destruction and a dramatic decline in marine diversity, which weaken the ocean ecosystem. as well as its ability to function as a key climate regulator – not to mention the fact that fishing trash kills more dolphins, rays, turtles and whales than all other forms of pollution combined.
In addition to resilience, the animals used for food think, feel pain, and experience loneliness, joy, fear, and love, as strong as the one you have for Lauren. Octopuses are among the most highly developed invertebrates, considered by many biologists to be the smartest. They have about 10,000 more genes than humans, possess both long-term and short-term memory, use tools, resolve conflicts, and even, as we know, hug and kiss their partners. Chickens are loving mothers who talk to their chicks before they hatch, are attentive and can even solve puzzles. Today, food innovators offer delicious vegan proteins that are not worth your life.
By becoming a vegan, people can reduce their diet-related greenhouse gases by up to 60%. We’ll be happy to help you with the transition, although I’m sure you have access to vegan chefs and whatever else you might need.
Thank you for your attention. Looking forward to your response.
Yours sincerely,
Ingrid Newkirk
The president
