Ukaipa, California. – PETA sent a letter to San Bernardino County District Attorney Jason Anderson this morning asking him to add animal cruelty to the accusations Californian couple Refugio and Angelina Jimenez face after their sex-revealing smoke bomb went off and devastated over 22,000 acres of forest. The wildfire took the life of a firefighter, forced more than 20,000 Californians to evacuate, destroyed animal habitats and undoubtedly caused countless animals to burn, from mice to deer.
In their letter, the group writes that it is necessary to recognize the crime of causing suffering and painful death of animals, as happened in this fire. The letter details how domesticated animals, including at least one dog and 20 chickens, as well as countless local wildlife, were killed or severely injured in a fire that lasted several months. One young lynx took seven weeks of intensive burn wounds to heal.
“When the fire engulfed thousands of hectares of forest, a huge number of frightened animals – both wild and domestic – saw their world disappear, and many of them were burned alive,” says PETA Senior Vice President Daphne Nachminovic. “PETA hopes this couple is also justly accused of causing such torture, including death. in least 21 pets ”.
PETA made a similar inquiry last fall regarding an accused arsonist linked to the Almeda fire in Oregon, and the man is now facing eight first-degree animal cruelty charges for allegedly killing a sheep, a canary, a lamb, a goldfish, a chicken and a raccoon.
PETA, whose motto is in part that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way,” is opposed to arrogance, a worldview focused on human superiority. For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, orInstagram…
