Pendleton, Oregon. – The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office shot and killed a chimpanzee named Buck after he brutally attacked the daughter of a local woman, Tamara Brogoitti, who for a long time kept the social animal from communicating with other chimpanzees and kept it as a “pet”. for years. Below you can read a statement by the PETA Foundation’s Deputy General Counsel for Bond Enforcement Brittany Peet:
PETA warned state officials that Tamara Brogoitti created a time bomb by coming into direct contact with a dangerous monkey, and now he is dead and a woman has been injured due to Brogoitti’s refusal to follow the expert advice and transfer Buck to an accredited sanctuary. Long before the chimpanzee Travis tore off a woman’s face in 2009, it became clear that attacks were inevitable as long as humans continued to treat chimpanzees like chihuahuas.
PETA, whose motto is in part that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way,” is opposed to arrogance, a worldview focused on human superiority. For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
