New York – Below you will find a statement from PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman in response to the announcement that Oscar de la Renta is banning fur:
“It took decades of runway interruptions, protests, some carefully tossed tofu pies and pressure from activists from around the world, but Oscar de la Renta finally followed the world in 2021 and banned fur. Nothing can bring back the multitude of animals that have been electrocuted, gassed, or otherwise killed for the profit of this fashion house, but it’s never too late to do the right thing. PETA recognizes Oscar de la Renta for following the example of other designers – and virtually every department store – in reinforcing the decline of the violent and terrible fur industry. “
