Austin, TX – See the following statement by PETA Vice President of Laboratory Investigations, Dr. Alka Chandna, Ph.D., regarding the USDA’s official warning to the University of Texas at Austin for violating federal animal welfare regulations. …
A just published federal report obtained by PETA shows that the University of Texas at Austin has received an official warning from the USDA for violating federal animal welfare regulations. The warning does not negate the trauma and agony suffered by animals in school laboratories, where experimenters were unable to give adequate pain relief to a monkey that needed it, and the monkey was injured after another monkey escaped due to the fact that the cage was not properly secured. … , and the vole was improperly euthanized and found alive, probably in a pile of corpses – but this shows that UT-Austin must get out of the dirty, bloody business of animal experimentation and redirect its resources to modern non-animal research methodologies that really will help people.
