Monaco – See the following statement by PETA Senior Vice President Cathy Guillermo regarding reports that the UIPM, the governing body of modern pentathlon, voted to replace the equestrian competition with cycling after this year’s Tokyo Olympics was caught. the camera whips the frightened horse and tries to get it on course:
Hitting or kicking a bike won’t hurt, so it’s an Olympic victory for horses and cyclists. PETA would like to thank UIPM for promptly responding to our recommendation to remove the horse component from pentathlon and replace it with cycling. The world’s attitude towards exploitation of horses has changed, and there is no place in the ring to punish frightened animals. PETA is looking forward to a new cruelty-free pentathlon.
PETA – whose motto, among other things, is that “animals do not belong to us to be used for entertainment or abuse in other ways” – opposes arrogance, a worldview focused on human superiority.
