London – Two matching pairs of Adidas vegan Stan Smith sneakers travel from PETA UK to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for their third wedding anniversary, traditionally known as the “leather” anniversary, on May 19th. set to work on their new endeavors, the gift offers an animal-friendly alternative to Meghan’s casual shoes and gives a modern look to antiquated leather gifts to commemorate the couple’s third year of marriage.
“We know how much you care about animals and the environment – unlike the leather industry, which kills more than 1 billion animals every year and whose end product is considered the most polluting material in fashion,” writes PETA President Ingrid Newkirk in a cover letter. “Therefore, we aimed to celebrate your special day in a modern, environmentally friendly and animal-friendly way…. We hope you enjoy this gift and that this shoe will inspire you to continue to stick to vegan fashion. “
A video revelation of PETA, the world’s largest leather manufacturer, revealed that tender calves were branded on their faces, and cows and bulls were electrocuted and beaten before being killed for their skin. Converting animal skins into leather requires the use of 130 different chemicals, including cyanide, and leather production produces huge amounts of carbon that contributes to climate change. The World Bank has reported that livestock has been responsible for over 80% of deforestation in the Amazon since 1970.
The shoe, a vegan version of the iconic Adidas Stan Smith design, features a vegan upper and outsole made from waste rubber. They are also made from Primegreen – a series of high performance recycled materials – and are free from virgin polyester.
PETA, whose motto is in part that “animals are not in our hands” – opposes arrogance, the views of supporters of human supremacy that cows and other animals are nothing more than a commodity. For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
