Cleveland – Now that the Cleveland Indians are successful by promising to change their name to Cleveland Guardians, PETA sent a letter to Team General Manager Mike Chernoff this afternoon asking him to continue the spirit of inclusiveness by adding a vegan hot drink. dog mascot of the hot dog derby tradition. The group offered to purchase a meatless mascot costume and treat all players to the vegetable dogs already on sale at Progressive Field.
“The pigs, cows and turkeys that make hot dogs value their lives and don’t deserve to be turned into a stadium snack, so let’s fight for them,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “PETA is hoping the team will present a delicious vegan sausage for the benefit of the animals, the environment and the health of their fans.”
PETA, whose motto is in part that “the animals are not ours to eat,” is opposed to arrogance, a worldview focused on human excellence. For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
This is followed by a letter from PETA to Chernov.

General Manager
Cleveland Indians
Dear Mr. Chernov:
I am writing on behalf of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and our over 6.5 million members and supporters around the world, including thousands in Ohio and countless sports fans. Now that you scored a home run by changing the name of your team to Cleveland Guardians, we get innings We hope you take this as a way to continue that spirit of inclusiveness: could you add a vegan hot dog mascot to your hot dog derby? If you agree, we are happy to buy the Veggie Dog and Veggie Dog costume (sold at your stadium) for all players.
I assure you, our request is not received out of left margin… In 2019, Progressive Field made it to the Top 10 Vegan Landmarks, and the number of vegans in the United States has grown by 3,000% over the past 15 years. Whether for ethical, environmental, or health-related reasons, 57% of Americans now buy vegan products instead of meat and dairy products, and sales of vegan products have grown 43% in the past two years. Even Nathan’s Famous recently added a vegan dog!
Promoting a vegan hot dog is also a great way guardian the health of your fans – The World Health Organization reports that processed meats like hot dogs cause cancer, and countless studies show that going vegan reduces your risk of cancer, heart disease, and strokes. And, of course, there is another reason to consider vegan hot dogs.
Pigs, cows, and other animals commonly used to make hot dogs are intelligent creatures that enjoy life, form strong bonds with others, and experience pain and fear, just like dogs (and baseball players). Yet the millions of people who are killed every year in the United States are raised on filthy industrial farms, where they endure extreme crowding and routine mutilation – without any pain relief – before being sent on a horrific journey to slaughter and forcibly killed.
We hope you take this opportunity to come to the plate giving vegan fans something to cheer on in your hot dog derby and introducing them to the Tribe Hot Dogs community. Thank you for your time and attention – I look forward to hearing from you. Good luck this season!
Yours sincerely,
Ingrid Newkirk
The president
