Tallahassee, Florida. – Because the Panama City, Pensacola and Tallahassee areas have tropical storm warnings, PETA is issuing a reminder to never leave dogs on a leash or paddock outside, and always bring your companion animals with you if they need to leave their homes.
Believe it or not, every time a natural disaster strikes, many dogs and other companion animals stay outside to take care of themselves, and even stay after people have been evacuated. Leashed dogs will swim to exhaustion and drown – and tethered dogs are everywhere. PETA Animal Rescue Team has witnessed the injuries that animals receive when they are thrown, when they are faced with flooding and flying debris. We found dead dogs in previous storms. We also found them up to their throats in water, unable to sit or lie down, and in nearly flooded boxes inside houses. and saw animals that were blown away by a strong wind. And, of course, the animals are petrified in such weather conditions.
PETA also prepared PSA – Disaster Preparedness with Dean Winters… This will remind people to plan for the safety of their companion animals well in advance of evacuation. For more information please visit PETA.org…
