Tampa, Florida. “Because there is tropical storm surveillance in southwest Florida, PETA reminds people that people should never leave their dogs tethered or in paddocks outside and always bring their companion animals with them if they have to evacuate their homes.
Believe it or not, every time a natural disaster strikes, many dogs and other companion animals stay outside to take care of themselves, and even get left behind when people are evacuated. Leashed dogs will swim to exhaustion and drown – and tethered dogs are everywhere. PETA’s Animal Rescue Team has witnessed firsthand the trauma animals receive when they are abandoned to face flooding and flying debris. We found dead dogs in previous storms. We also found them up to their throats in water, unable to sit or lie down, and in nearly flooded boxes inside houses. and saw animals that were blown away by a strong wind. And, of course, the animals are petrified in such weather conditions.
PETA shares its PSA – Disaster Preparedness with Dean Winters… This will remind people to plan for the safety of their companion animals well in advance of evacuation. For more information please visit PETA.org…
