Phoenix – A Business Compassion Award moves from PETA to local GREAT USA shopping malls for the development and installation of warning signs about the danger of leaving animals and children in parked cars. The decision of the property management group was made after discussions with PETA.
“Even fast things can end in tragedy, as temperatures inside parked cars can skyrocket to three-digit numbers in minutes,” says PETA executive vice president Tracy Reiman. “In response to PETA’s call for warning signs, BIG Shopping Centers USA is helping to prevent the horrific deaths of animals and children from heatstroke.”
This year heat-related deaths of the 31 companion animals have already made it into the news – and many more have suffered and died out of the public eye. Anyone who sees a dog or a child in a parked car should take immediate action: write down the color, make, model and license plate and hurry to find the owner of the car in the nearest stores – and if the owner can. ”If you are not found, call local humane authorities or the police. If they does not respond, do whatever you can to save a person’s life. PETA offers a window breaker for emergency relief.
BIG Shopping Centers USA joins a long list of companies including Walmart, CVS, Walgreens and Albertsons, which owns Safeway, which added hot car warning signs this year. In gratitude, he will receive a framed certificate and a box of delicious vegan dog-shaped chocolates from PETA.
