THE GAP: Valentino will be fur-free by 2022!

Was this over a decade of PETA protest and behind-the-scenes letters? Maybe it was a terrific runway disruption. Perhaps this is somehow related to outbreaks of COVID-19 in mink factories. Or maybe it was your consumer activism when you championed the interests of animals. Most likely, it was all of the above that finally convinced Valentino to give up fur!

Valentino gets rid of the fur

There was applause at PETA headquarters yesterday when it became known that even the fashion house that sewed mink for sneakers was changing over time.

At this rate, not a single designer will be selling fur next year – and this is not surprising, because not a single good buyer will buy it.

Valentino joins hundreds of other companies, including Calvin Klein, Coach, Burberry, Gucci, Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren and Versace, who banned fur after hearing from PETA and our supporters about the suffering that goes into every fur coat, collar, etc. D. bauble. For decades, PETA and our international affiliates have documented and exposed that foxes, minks, and other animals used to extract fur live in filthy, cramped fur farms before being electrocuted, gassed, or beaten to death.

Exciting news also came after Valentino became the first luxury brand to ban alpaca fleece in 2020. Brand bans will also help the planet – raising and killing animals for any material is damaging to the environment. According to the Higga Sustainability Index, alpaca fleece is the second most environmentally hazardous material (after silk), and the negative impact on the environment from the production of fur coats and finishes can be as high as 10 times higher than for a faux fur coat.

    Our job is not done

Animals are still suffering from the fur trade – and they need your help. Please continue to gain momentum as you urge the Canada Goose to join Valentino and countless others in shedding fur:

Tell Canada Goose, “Throw away ALL the fur and fluff!”
