This man spotted a car partly hidden in the brush, and when he peered inside it, he was floored. A man was walking along the highway when he noticed something strange at the side of the road. A section of the brush was flattened as if someone had driven over it. Sure enough, after going to investigate, he found a car crashed into a tree, but it was when he looked inside the vehicle that he got the biggest surprise.
In May 2017, Bob Stewart and his family experienced something that no family should have. One of their relatives went missing and nobody had any clue where she might be. Stewart’s aunt, Sharon Lehman, was living in Rochester, Washington, when one day she had driven out to the family’s vacation house in North Cove on the coast. But with her family awaiting her return, Leeming didn’t make it back home. Of course, the family was extremely concerned for Leeming’s welfare, particularly so due to the fact that the seven-year-old had been diagnosed as suffering from the early stages of dementia.
Now back to the story
Besides, it was completely out of character for her to disappear without warning, Lehman’s granddaughter, Carrie Anne Wood, organized a crowdfunding campaign to raise money to pay for a search party. Please help us get my grandmother home. She’s under medical treatment, and this is very unlikely to be gone for so long.
She would never go somewhere without telling us where she was going. Wood Road on Go fund me. After alerting the authorities, including a number of Sheriff’s offices in the area and Thurston County Search and Rescue, Leeming’s family got to work. They gathered a search party to look for her and ask the public to remain vigilant. Leeming’s family began searching the area between North Cove and Rochester.
And given that the distance between the two towns is 70 miles
Most of the searchers covered the area by vehicle. However, Leeming’s nephew, Bob Stewart, decided to search on foot. As he walked down highway twelve, Stewart noticed something strange. I just was looking over the edge, and the more I looked, the more I could see that it looked like the brush was disturbed just a little bit. So he decided to go and investigate.
Stewart followed the line of damaged foliage down a 30-foot ravine, and what he found at the bottom of the bank came as a shock. Why? Because there wedged up against a tree with a blue Chevrolet just like his aunts. At this point, Stewart decided to call Leeming’s son for help. Just as I was talking to him, I heard someone yelling, he revealed.
I thought it was a neighbor across the road yelling for an animal
Then I realized the sound was coming from in the brush right below where I was standing. He looked into the car and saw that his aunt was inside hurt, but alive. He was stunned and I’m yelling, I’m coming to save you, Aunt Sharon. Amazingly, Stewart had found his aunt five long days after she had gone missing.
He quickly shared the joyous news with Leeming’s children. She’s here. I found her. Get everybody here right now, he told her. Later, a helicopter crew airlifted Leeming to hospital.
Once there, the doctors determined that she had broken her ankle and her heel and had also experienced a rupture in her chest. However, they expected her to make a complete recovery. Now, say, Fleming began to open up about her ordeal. The grandmother had been driving down Highway Twelve when she began to feel funny, she said she felt sleepy and dizzy and part of her face felt like it dragged down a little. Her daughter, Tammy Pennypacker, told King Five she knew that she was in trouble, Pennypacker added, but before Leaming could do anything about it, she lost control of the car and careen down the ravine.
In these terrifying moments
She believed that her time on Earth was up as she was flying, my mom said. All she could think was, God, don’t let this be today that I die, Pennypacker revealed to King Five somehow, Leeming survived the crash, but she was left trapped in her car. Incredibly, over the next five days, Leeming managed to survive on just two bananas, some pop tarts, and a bottle of water. While she did all she could to attract attention for the first two days, leaning repeatedly honked her Horn until her car battery died, she also yelled out if she thought she could hear someone approaching, just as she did when Stewart came across the car as they looked for her, search teams Ping Leeming’s phone every 2 hours in an attempt to triangulate her position.
Her family also tried to call, but her phone had become lodged in the dashboard upon impact, and she was unable to retrieve it.
However, the ringing of her cellphone provided reassurance to Leeming. She knew that as long as people were calling, her family were still looking for her and wouldn’t give up until they’d found her. Despite her unimaginable ordeal, Leeman quickly returned to her normal self in the days after her rescue, and the incident hasn’t put her off traveling one bit. She’s doing really well. She’s joking and happy to be here and already planning her next trip down the beach.
Stewart reveals to King Five.
