Henderson, Kai. – An anonymous whistleblower will receive a check from PETA for providing information that helped sentence him to 10 years in prison in a case of fatal cruelty to animals. Brian Matthews of Henderson reportedly pleaded guilty to animal cruelty and arson charges after Duke, a dog missing by his guardian, was found burnt in the men’s room last year. Police said the whistleblower’s information was critical to solving the case.
“No amount of money can bring the Duke back or erase his agony, but everyone should feel relieved that other animals are safe from this killer,” says PETA vice president Colleen O’Brien. “PETA encourages the public to speak out for vulnerable animals, like this informant.”
To avoid tragedy, PETA warns families to watch out for companion animals when they are outdoors, and never leave them unattended in their backyards.
PETA, whose motto is in part that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way,” is opposed to arrogance, a worldview focused on human superiority. For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
