New Oxford, Pennsylvania. – What PETA calls Plainville FarmsThe Global Animal Partnership (GAP) suspended fraudulent humane certification, turkey products were removed from Whole Foods, and 13 employees were fired following a covert PETA investigation that revealed turkeys were trampled, kicked, beaten with a heavy rod and used in simulated intercourse. … A company whose products are still sold in Wegmans, Harris Teeter, and Publix and still carry the “humanely raised” label – said it would start monitoring its operations with body cameras, which PETA calls a pointless act, unless the footage is broadcast live so the crowdsourced public can view it and to point out any ongoing brutality action.

“PETA’s videos demonstrate that you cannot rely on ‘humane’ certifications to protect animals, and the public has a right to know,” said PETA executive vice president Tracy Reiman. “If Plainville Farms were serious about preventing abuse, it wouldn’t be raising turkeys as if they were widgets, and the least it could do is show customers what’s going on with the animals in its barns.”

While GAP and its partners claim their standards prevent abuse, PETA found flagrant animal cruelty – and violations of GAP’s own standards – across all 11 GAP-certified indian and pig farms it surveyed. A PETA investigator found that workers regularly kicked and stomped many turkeys, including those that were sick, injured and unable to walk. The workers tried to break the necks of the turkeys, but they failed, they convulsed and died in agony on the floor. Instead of trying to stop the violence, one executive kicked the turkeys too and scolded a PETA investigator for not doing the same. Workers threw chickens at each other like basketball. One worker pretended to masturbate with a dying bird, while another sat and pretended to rape another bird. The police investigation is ongoing.

PETA, whose motto is in part that “the animals are not ours to eat” – opposes arrogance, a worldview focused on human superiority. For more information on collecting news and reporting on PETA investigations visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
