New Oxford, Pennsylvania. – After PETA discovered that Plainville Farms workers kicked, stomped and beat turkeys with a heavy stick, including one so lame that they could not move, and that a worker pretended to masturbate with a dying female bird, the company said its attorney stated that it cannot take “corrective action” unless PETA, among other things, provides the names of employees who abuse the birds. However, as PETA’s general counsel points out in a letter sent to the company’s lawyer, Plainville already knows the identities of those who worked on the teams with the PETA investigator. each of which was implicated in the abuse– for further details, contact the State Police, which is investigating. PETA expects that if Plainville wants to identify more intruders in its crews, it will be fully equipped to conduct its own investigation, conduct surprise inspections, and even install a video surveillance system.
“No executive did anything to stop workers from kicking vulnerable turkeys like a soccer ball — in fact, one of the executives joined them,” says PETA Senior Vice President Daphne Nachminovic. “Planeville needs to stop pretending to be a shock and end the abuse by starting with a comprehensive audit of all of its teams and leaders.”
PETA also noted in its letter that the filmed ill-treatment was just an example of the brigades’ rampant brutality. One farmer even asked the rude workers seen in the PETA video to unload the turkeys from his barns, complaining that another team turned the birds “into a hamburger before they [were] even on trucks. “
Plainville Farms, supplier All products, Publix, Harris Teeter, and other leading grocery stores, certified by the Global Animal Partnership, claim through misleading labels that the turkeys it exploits are “humanely raised.”
