Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. “I want you to change. Wear Vegan. ” This is the message of the cow, goat, alpaca and sheep to potential Urban Outfitters buyers thanks to new PETA ads that have just surfaced at bus stops and kiosks throughout the city.
Pittsburgh has consistently ranked among the top cities for millennials – a primary market for Urban Outfitters, Inc. brands. (including Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie and Free People with five stores in the city) and one PETA, which hopes to achieve when the pandemic’s restrictions are eased. and buyers are looking for “real life” wardrobes.
“Urban Outfitters wants to attract progressive youth, but they are failing by selling bags and shoes made from bits of stolen animal skin, wool and feathers,” says PETA executive vice president Tracy Reiman. “PETA encourages friendly shoppers to freshen up their wardrobes with a vegan style that leaves the animals alone.”
This ad is part of PETA’s international campaign requiring all Urban Outfitters, Inc. stop selling leather, cashmere, alpaca, wool and everything else cruelly obtained from animals.
PETA initially tried to advertise with photographs of insiders from the fashion industry in which workers beat, kicked, and maimed delicate sheep for their wool; leave sensitive goats with bloody gaping wounds during cashmere operations; burn, electroshock, beat and slaughter cows on the skin; and other methods of cruelty to animals. The images included a still from a PETA investigation by one of the alpaca suppliers owned by Anthropologie that showed alpacas spitting and tearing in fear of rough haircuts, but the city of Pittsburgh declined to advertise. “We cannot display animals under duress or abuse,” the advertising spokesman explained.
PETA – whose motto is in part that “the animals are not ours” – opposes arrogance, a worldview focused on human excellence. For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
