Angels – As the Fourth of July approaches – and because many people in Los Angeles are already experiencing amateur fireworks and petard shows night after night, all of which are illegal in the city. PETA asks everyone to report any illegal fireworks in their vicinity. This can save the lives of cats and dogs, as fireworks often cause animals to jump over fences, break chains, or even punch through windows in an attempt to avoid the horrific noise!
On July 4, dozens of frightened Los Angeles dogs fled after hearing the crashing of fireworks, and in October, a dog trying to hide from the Lakers victory fireworks was stuck under a house for two days. Fireworks can also disrupt wildlife and scare people with PTSD, including veterans.
“Firing fireworks on the street not only affects vulnerable people and other animals, but is illegal,” says PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange. “PETA reminds everyone that a happy Fourth can mean a vegan barbecue, dance party, or a splash in the pool, as long as the animals are safe.”
Making a complaint is as easy as calling 877-275-5273 (877-ASK-LAPD) or filling out a form. here… The LAPD accepts illegal fireworks without penalty by calling the same number used to report them, and also recommends LACrimeStoppers.org for those who would like to tip anonymously.
